To earn the Orange Star, the student must complete the following requirements In addition to having
completed the requirements for the Yellow Star:

Reading

1. Read and highlight (or annotate) Scent And The Scenting Dog by William Syrotuck, chapter 9 to
completion.

2. Fill out the training log for each training session.

3. List at least three general environmental factors that may affect a dog’s performance while tracking,
and at least three factors that specifically affect your dog’s performance.

Tracking Exercises

1. Hydration Intensified Tracking.

    a. A track (with food) of 150 paces in length must be completed. 80% of the placed food must be
    located.

    b. The track must have at least one left and one right turn, each of 90 degrees. The turns will be
    made at an ordinary walking pace, i.e. no military “left-face” or “right-face.” The order of the turn
    is at the discretion of the handler/tracklayer, and will be determined prior to laying the track.

    c. The above track is to be aged for 10 minutes from the completion of the preparation of the
    exercise.

    d. Begin to train the indication of articles found on the track.

    e. Document each tracking exercise.

2. Verify the tracking exercise for the Orange Star by video recording.
