To earn the Yellow Star, the student must complete the following requirements in addition to those for
the White Star:
Reading
1. Read and highlight Scent and The Scenting Dog, by William Syrotuck, chapters 5-9.
2. Continue to fill out the training log. Add the landmarks used to lay each leg of the track to the
tracking log.
3. Provide a list of behaviors that indicate that your dog is tracking, and a list of behaviors that
indicate that your dog is off the track and/or searching for the scent.
Tracking Exercises
1. Hydration Intensified Tracking: At least 80 of 100 steps must be checked. 80% of the track length
(for small dogs) must be checked for treats. The length of the tracking line should be ½ the total
line length or greater.
2. The above track is to be aged for aged for the time it takes to set up the exercise, plus 5 minutes.
3. Document each tracking exercise.
4. Verify the tracking exercise for the Yellow Star by video recording.
